Heimdal-archaeometry is a private company founded in 1992. The focus areas are analysis of prehistoric and historic materials as metals, glass and ceramics, as well as interpetation of the archaeological remains of prehistoric workshops.

The analyses themselves are not the
essential part of archaeometry. Therefore, our main objective is the
interpretation in terms of historical understanding.
As a basis for this interpretation nearly 30.000 analysis of european prehistoric and historic artefacts have been compiled.

Examiation of the, often microscopic, residues from metal- and
glassworking can give us an insight into the technological abilities and
traditions of the artisans.
By mapping the spatial distribution of the different types of residues, it can be possible to reconstruct the physical organisation of a workshop.

Examination of the archaeological and historical artefacts
will also yield important information about technologies, sources of raw
materials, economy and social status of the owner.
By comparing with results from other investigations we can learn
about the social differentiation of the workshops , and the diffusion of
technological knowledge can be traced.
